OPUS NATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION

The OPUS National Music Competition will award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in each instrument & age category. Additionally, a maximum of (2) merit prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the judges. All prize winners will receive diplomas. Cash prizes will only be awarded to those who receive a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize. All monetary prizes are based on the size of the pot and will be announced on our website. Winners will be featured on our website & YouTube channel in addition to press releases through media outlets. We hope to resume in-person nationals in future years of the competition. At this time, the National round will be held online.

REQUIREMENTS

Students can create a program with at least 1 composition, and no more than 3, which must fit within their allotted time based on age category (please see the rules for category time limits). Video performances must be done in 1 take. Multiple videos will not be accepted. Students can use the same repertoire as the state level competition, but cannot use the same video(s). The OPUS Competition prefers YouTube links.

JURY

The jury of the Opus Competition is made up of world renowned artists. The panel includes principal players & concertmasters of leading orchestras from the USA, Canada, and Europe, in addition to university professors. The official jury will be announced at the closing of each application cycle.

CASH PRIZES & AWARDS

The OPUS National Music Competition will award prizes in each category at the discretion of the judges. All finalists and/or prize winners will receive diplomas. Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners only. Please check back for final cash prize pots. All winners will be featured on our website & YouTube channel in addition to press releases.

2022 CASH PRIZES

The 2022 OPUS Nationals had a prize fund of $4,225. The fund was divided amongst all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners.

How many people are on the jury?

The jury is made up of up to 4 renowned musicians, university professors, and arts leaders.

When will the results be posted?

All results will be announced by April 25, 2022.

When will cash prizes and awards be shipped?

All awards will be shipped by May 2, 2022.

Will all participants receive recognition?

Winners of the OPUS National Music Competition will receive recognition. Winners will also be featured on our website, YouTube channel, and press releases will be sent out to select media outlets.
